El Paso reports just 1 new virus case, but 2 additional deaths

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- For the first time since the early days of the pandemic, the El Paso Department of Public Health announced only one new coronavirus case.

Additionally, health officials reported two new coronavirus-related deaths, a man in his 50s and another man in his 60s. It's worth noting that it can sometimes take months for the health department to confirm a Covid-19 death.

El Paso County's pandemic death toll now stands at 2,604. There are 22 additional suspected Covid-19 deaths currently being investigated by the health department.

El Paso health department data shows that 52.1% of El Pasoans 12 years and older are now fully vaccinated, with 66.4% having received at least one shot.

The number of known active coronavirus infections now stands at 1,217.

There were 85 Covid-19 patients in El Paso hospitals on Monday, with 28 of those patients in intensive care units.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 135,883 confirmed virus cases in El Paso with 131,967 reported recoveries.
