No new El Paso virus deaths, active cases under 1,000 for day 3

EL PASO, Texas -- The number of active Covid-19 infections in El Paso County remained below 1,000 for a third-straight day on Sunday, health officials said as they reported 41 new virus cases.

With a current total of 923 active cases, the last time the infection rate held at this low of a level was at the start of summer last year in the Borderland.

Also Sunday, health leaders reported no additional coronavirus deaths. El Paso County's pandemic death toll remained at 2,617.

There were 77 El Pasoans hospitalized on Sunday due to Covid-19, with 25 of those patients listed in the intensive care unit and 20 requiring the use of ventilators.

Since the start of the pandemic, health officials estimate that 132,456 El Pasoans have recovered from Covid-related infections and illness. That's out of a total of 136,086 cases to date.
