Pregnant El Paso mom with Covid gives birth early to get life-saving treatment

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico -- El Paso mother of five Megan von Prittwitz was eight months pregnant when she was airlifted to an Albuquerque hospital with Covid-related pneumonia. In order to get a life save treatment, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, the doctors needed to delivery the baby early.

Von Prittwitz, who was sedated at the time and has been for 15 days, has no idea she's welcomed baby Aveah into the world.

"She doesn't know anything and that's very scary for us because she's going to wake up confused," said her fiancé Aubrey Harrington, who is at home with the couple's five other kids.

It's not only Von Prittwitz who hasn't met the baby, no one has. After a little bit of time, Aveah is now able to breath room air on her own.

"We just can't wait to see her," said von Prittwitz's mom.

After 15 days on life support, the doctors are getting ready to try and wake von Prittwitz.

"Slowly but surely, there's little progress that's being made and we are all thankful for that," said Harrington.

This all started when the family went to California to visit von Prittwitz's mom. There were not vaccinated at the time, and the entire family got infected with Covid-19.

Now in quarantine, Harrington told ABC-7 he is getting vaccinated as soon as he's out.
