‘House of Horrors’ in Las Cruces showcases over a dozen animatronic Halloween characters

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -- The corner of Espina St and Utah Ave may be one of the only spots in Las Cruces where one can face their fears of Micheal Myers, Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, and even Shorty from Killer Klowns from Outer Space; all in one place.

Maria Rosales owns the house right off of Espina where she hosts the "House of Horrors" in her front yard every halloween. She's also known for extravagant Christmas light and decoration displays later in the holiday season.

She told ABC-7 that she's spent over $5,000 on halloween displays that she's amassed over the years, and this year, she spent another 2 grand. Part of that sum of money went towards a massive, 12-foot skeleton that lurks right in the front of her home, a new addition to the "House of Horrors" for 2022.

"Halloween is my favorite holiday" said Rosales. Originally raised in a low-income household, Rosales said that her family didn't give out candy to trick-or-treaters. As a child, she told her mom "one day, I'll be the one with the nice displays, and I'll be the one giving out all the candy on halloween."

"My dream came true," she said. "I like giving back to the community and giving them a place to come spend time" she added.

Other prominent displays in the "House of Horrors" include an animatronic Regan MacNeil from the 1973 film 'The Exorcist.' The figure turns her head a whole 360 degrees to give visitors s a spook. An entire skeleton family, including their beloved skeleton pets, can be seen having a dinner meeting. While it's unclear what's being discussed, it can only be assumed that the conversations are bone-dry.

Maria Rosales' "House of Horrors" can be seen at the 1100 block of Espina in Las Cruces. Rosales is encouraging everyone to check it out. It will be broken down on November 1st to make room for Christmas display preparations.
