Sunday Funday Moment: Anthony Middle school students create “Claw Mall” to help their community dress for success
Anthony, Texas-- A few Anthony ISD students are helping those in need with a community closet but this community closet is teaching those students some very important life skills as well.
Anthony Middle school unveiled their community closet also known as the Claw Mall. This student organized closet is a way for the school to not only help out students, but families in need in the community as well.
“Our biggest message is always about how can we help you. What can we do for you and if somebody needs something for an interview then come visit us, because that’s why we’re here” said Anthony Middle School Principal Jaime De La Torre.
Students and staff have been collecting gently used clothes for their claw mall since spring break.
The community closet provides a variety of clothing items including baby clothes, blankets, Women casual and professional clothing, men casual and professional clothing, shoes, ties, and clothing for kids of all sizes and age ranges as well.
Members of the community who are interested in visiting the Claw Mall must make a shopping appointment by calling (915) 886-6530 during regular school hours. Once they schedule an appointment, a staff member will accompany them to help them select their free items.
This community closet is a way for students to give back to their community but it’s also a way for them to learn some important life skills.
All clothing items that are donated are washed, sanitized, ironed and folded by each student.
The Claw Mall is something that the students at Anthony Middle school are proud of because it’s a way for them to take care of the community they themselves call home.
If you would like to make a donation to the Claw Mall you can do so by heading to the school’s campus Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Anthony Middle School.
