Residents to speak before El Paso County Commissioners on proposed tax rate

KVIA

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The El Paso County Commissioners Court is scheduled to hold public hearings Monday and invited residents to comment on the proposed budget and tax rate for the 2026-2027 fiscal year.

It will take place Downtown at the Enrique Moreno County Courthouse starting at 5:30 p.m. Residents are expected to voice their opposition or support for the tax rate first discussed in last Monday's meeting.

For next year's budget, a $0.504 tax rate will be used, which is the maximum the county can use.

The actual rate is expected to be lower than that, as the voter-approved rate gives the county flexibility to address various needs and negotiate the final rate. The current "No-New-Revenue Rate," which the county typically uses, is just over $0.45.

A second public hearing on the tax rate is scheduled for Sept. 14th, when the county could adopt the proposed budget. After approval, it will go into effect Oct. 1.

ABC-7 will be at Monday's meeting and will speak with county commissioners and residents expected to voice their opinions on the possible tax rate rise.
