Customs Agents Seize Over 1,000 Lbs. Of Pot At Ysleta Port Of Entry

By Miguel Martinez

EL PASO – Customs agents at El Paso’s Ysleta port-of-entry seized over 1,000 lbs. of marijuana hidden in a cargo truck around noon Wednesday.

Agents responded to the alert by a drug-sniffing dog at the commercial cargo facility of drugs in the vehicle waiting in line to reach the primary inspection station.

Noting that the vehicle appeared empty, the agents scanned the truck with a cargo x-ray system which revealed an unusual space in the flooring.

After drilling into the floor, agents discovered and confiscated 350 bundles of marijuana totaling 1,222 lbs. from the false compartment. ICE agents did not arrest the driver of the truck after it was determined he had no involvement in the smuggling attempt.
