Gas Odor Strong In Downtown El Paso
EL PASO, Texas – A strong gas odor is hanging around downtown El Paso. Monday morning, Sun Metro conducted routine maintenance work on a Mercaptan pump. Mercaptan is a non-toxic fuel odorizer, used to help officials identify gas leaks.
Due to strong winds, the Mercaptan was spread across the downtown area, causing a strong gas smell.
According to officials, there is no safety risk and the odor should dissipate by Monday evening.
