Texas First Lady Announces Mansion Rebuilding Fund

AUSTIN (AP) – Texas first lady Anita Perry today announced a fund to help rebuild the Governor’s Mansion after last month’s devastating fire.

The wife of Republican Rick Perry says donations to the nonprofit Texas Governor’s Mansion Restoration Fund will be tax-deductible.

The first donation was $10,000 from the Heritage Society of Austin.

Anita Perry says she hopes to work with the Legislature to bring in state money for the project.

The June 8 fire destroyed much of the historic mansion, which was unoccupied and undergoing renovations.

Investigators blame arson. So far no arrests have been made.

Meanwhile, John Braun of Braun & Butler Construction says workers have cleared debris off the first floor and put in supports for the second floor.
