STARS To Receive Up To $82,000, Will Hold Fundraiser Nov. 1

EL PASO — STARS will receive up to $82,000 from the Governor’s Office Criminal Justice Division, officials with the organization said Thursday.

STARS advocates for victims of sexual assault and provides a 24-hour response team, counseling, crisis intervention and presentations in the community.

At first their request for funding was denied, but the community started writing letters of support and got the grant, though it is half of what they originally asked for, a STARS spokesperson said.

STARS will hold their biggest fundraiser of the year Nov. 1, the Carly Martinez Race at Marwood Park in the Upper Valley. KVIA is a sponsor of the event.

For more information about the STARS or the upcoming race, call 533-7700 or go to STARS’ website at www.stars-elpaso.org.
