Police ID Woman Who Died In Friday Night Accident

EL PASO — Police have identified a woman who was killed in an auto accident Friday night.

Nineteen-year-old Olive Ellis died in a rollover accident that happened about 11 p.m. Friday in the 8400 block of Gateway East. Another woman, 22-year-old Shannon Sumpter, the driver of the vehicle, was injured in the accident.

Police said they do not believe alcohol is a factor in the accident.

Traffic investigators said the two women were traveling inside a Pontiac G5 that skidded off the road and rolled over after it re-entered the highway.

An investigationshowed that Ellis was ejected from the car. Ellis was transported to Thomason Hospital where she died. Sumpter was taken to Thomason with non-life threatening injuries, officials said.

This is the 49th traffic fatality of 2008 as compared to 44 at this same time in 2007, police officials said.
