El Paso Woman One Of Top 10 CNN Heroes For 2008
An El Paso woman is one of 10individuals in the running for CNN’s Hero of the Year.
According toher profile on CNN that aired in April, for 12 years, Maria Ruiz has traveled several times a week to the outskirts of Juarez to help hundreds of children and families living in poverty in Juarez.
CNN announced on Oct. 8 that Ruiz and nine othershad beenchosen by a panel as the Top 10 CNN Heroes for 2008.
The CNN Hero of the Year, chosen by voters on CNN’s website, will be announced on “CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute.” It willair on CNN at 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving night.
The winner will receive $100,000. Voting ends November 19.
Ruiz and the other honorees will receive $25,000 and will be profiled in a documentary tribute.
