Westway Man Allegedly Hits Pedestrian With Truck

WESTWAY, Texas — A man was arrested Sunday night after allegedly hitting a pedestrian with his pick-up truck, El Paso County Sheriff’s officials said.

Forty-nine-year-old Jorge Cuellar allegedly struck 42-year-old Agustin Rodriguez as Cuellar was driving south on De Alva in Westway about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, officials said. Rodriguez was walking on the side of the road.

A witness said that after hitting Rodriguez, Cuellar allegedly reversed and proceeded to drive away. The witness then chased after the vehicle and stopped the driver from fleeing.

The witness called 911 and deputies took Cuellar into custody. A strong odor of alcohol was present on Cuellar, sheriff’s officials said.

Cuellar was charged and arrested for intoxicated assault. He was booked and remains at the El Paso County Detention Facility.

Rodriguez was transported to Thomason Hospital with several injuries, sheriff’s officials said.
