Friends Remember Horizon High Student Killed In Motorcycle Crash

HORIZON CITY, Texas — Monday was an emotional day for students at Horizon High School. They were back in class for the first time since they lost one of their own.

Eighteen-year-old senior football player Juan Ortega was killed in a motorcycle crash on Friday.

Students had a hard time containing their emotion as they remembered the popular senior who was a football player, a father and most of all, a friend.

“He was a really good person, he would always walk around with a smile, you would never see him sad,” Horizon High School student Nancy Ibarra said.

Students wore black and made blue ribbons with Juan’s football jersey number on them.

Sheriff’s deputies say Juan was speeding on a motorcycle when he lost control and slammed into a rock wall.

“I am very sorry for his family and the loss they had to go through…but he’s always going to be remembered here,” Stephanie Moya said.

Juan’s classmates say they have already raised over $2,000 to help his family with funeral costs. If you would like to help out, students say you can stop by Horizon High School. The investigation into Juan Ortega’s death is ongoing.
