Suspect Charged With Impersonating Public Servant

EL PASO — Police arrest a man they claim was impersonating a public servant.

The arrest was made shortly before 4 a.m. in the 300 block of North Americas Ave. Police officials say Jessie Ortega, 23, of the 9700 block of Vallarta, allegedly impersonated a public servant at the scene of an accident and gave instructions to those involved in the collision.

Officials say a Mission Valley police officer responding to the scene was greeted by Ortega, who proceeded to explain the traffic collision to the officer.

According to police officials, Ortega was not wearing a “distinctive” law enforcement uniform and an investigation revealed he did not work for any local law enforcement agency.

Ortega was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility and is charged with impersonating a public officer. The investigation is still ongoing. No word on those involved in the traffic collision.
