Miners Tame Cougars 65-58, Win 6th In A Row

EL PASO, Texas (AP)-Derrick Caracter scored a season-high 22 points and had 13 rebounds as UTEP won its sixth straight by defeating Houston 65-58 Wednesday night.

Jeremy Williams added 12 points and Christian Polk 11 for the Miners (16-5, 7-1 Conference USA), whose winning streak is their longest streak since a seven-game run late in the 2004-05 season.

Aubrey Coleman led the Cougars (11-10, 4-4) with 27 points but was only 9 of 27 from the field. UTEP is undefeated in the conference since a 75-65 loss to Houston on Jan. 13. Caracter scored 15 of his points in the second half as UTEP rallied from a 30-26 halftime deficit.

The Miners used a 9-2 run to take their first advantage, 39-38 with 14:12 to play, and they led the rest of the way.

Houston scored the game’s first eight points and led by as many as 14 before halftime.
