NMSU Approves Budget Cuts

NMSU president Barbara Couture approved a round of budget cuts Wednesday.

The plan willl trim $5.2 million for the coming fiscal year, and eliminate 68 jobs. An initial proposal called for another $156,000 in cuts and the elimination of 69 positions.

About 40 percent of the affected jobs are currently vacant. Another 40 percent will be reoarganized under another division with a different revenue source. The remaining 20 percent are filled, but officials say they will transfer employees to fill vacant positions elsewhere.

No pay cuts or layoffs are planned.
