The 14-month-old boy who was abducted Tuesday evening and the family member who took him were found today along Interstate 25 north of T. or C., Las Cruces Police said.

Las Cruces Police detectives said they believe Brandon Chapo was taken from his mother, without consent, by a relative at around 7 p.m. Tuesday evening. The infant and 29-year-old Jennifer Platero, a cousin of the boy’s mother, were located today by a New Mexico State Police officer on duty along I-25, roughly 20 miles north of T. or C., N.M.

The boy was said to be in good condition and is being cared for by child protective services until he can be reunited with his mother.

Las Cruces Police detective learned that the relatives drove to Las Cruces on Tuesday and planned on staying the night at a local motel until Platero left with the boy.

LCPD detectives have yet to interview Platero. The investigation is ongoing and charges are possible.
