UPDATE: Road Salting, De-Icing To Continue Through Night

The City of El Paso Department of Transportation (EPDoT) workers are continuing to work to keep main roadways open.

EPDoT officials caution motorists to be aware that the roads across the community could remain hazardous over the next hours and throughout the night due to ice on roads thawing and refreezing.

Crews are following the De-Icing Plan for El Paso, which is carried out in coordination with emergency officials and the local office of the Texas Department of Transportation.

Crews are working to keep roads open by spreading sand and salt on the streets, overpasses and bridges. Snow plows are being used in some areas. EPDoT continues to concentrate on treating routes to hospitals, fire houses and police stations, as well, as assisting state transportation officials with clearing the highway system. Crews also are responding to traffic signal malfunctions associated with power outages and traffic collisions.

Scenic Drive remains closed as a precaution. It was closed on Tuesday night.

Again, motorists are encouraged to stay off the roadways, if at all possible. Reduced traffic will allow emergency vehicles to move freely during the storm and help to ensure that roads are treated appropriately.
