UPDATE: Pedestrian Killed In Tractor-Trailer Crash Identified
Police said they have identified a man who died after being struck by a tractor-trailer in central El Paso Friday.
The El Paso Police Department said officers found 70-year-old Pablo Hernandez still trapped underneath the truck when they arrived at the scene of the crash.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the crash occurred at about 5 p.m. on Gateway North Boulevard and Paisano Drive, near the El Paso Zoo.
Investigators determined Hernandez was crossing Gateway North when the tractor-trailer, driven by 33-year-old Luis Alberto Corral, struck him after the traffic light had turned green.
This is the 16th traffic-related death and fifth pedestrian death in the city in 2011.
