ABC-7 Stormtrack First Alert: Expect Severe Weather Conditions Sunday
Chief meteorologist “Doppler” Dave Speelman has issued an ABC-7 First Alert for Sunday.
“Winds and heat will be the main concerns for the weekend,” said Speelman.
Wind will begin kicking up Saturday, with gusts predicted at around 35 mph later in the day, and the severe weather will hit Sunday afternoon, when wind gusts are expected to reach 60 mph. Blowing dust will also be a problem Sunday afternoon.
“The winds will crank up ahead of a cold front that is expected to cool us down for early next week,” said Speelman.
He predicts temperatures to be 90 degrees Saturday, possibly breaking the record high of 88. Sunday’s high is also expected to be in the upper 80s.
The wind, combined with our extremely dry conditions, will cause the blowing dust and sand, said Speelman.
“As the cold front passes early Monday, expect temps to cool down to around 70 Monday, with still some wind gusts — around 50 mph early — but the cooler air will settle a lot of the dust and sand,” he said.
