Police Arrest Man Accused Of 3rd DWI, Possession

Officers responding to a call of a drunken driver parked in green Ford Explorer outside Kohlberg Elementary School were led on chase that ended with a crash early Sunday, police said.

The Explorer was spotted heading south on Resler Drive, but the driver refused to stop and led officers on a chase about 4:15 a.m., police said.

The chase ended when the driver crashed on the 6100 block of Bandolero Drive. During a search, officers also found a plastic baggie containing a tenth of gram of cocaine in his wallet, police said.

Michael Scott Ballesteros, 26, of the 100 block of Northwind Drive, was arrested on suspicion of evading arrest or detention in a motor vehicle, possession of controlled substance under 1 gram and driving while intoxicated third or more. Police said Ballesteros had two previous convictions for DWI.

He was booked into the El Paso County Jail, with bond set $11,000.
