An airman was shot at Holloman Air Force Base after an altercation involving members of the 49th Security Forces Squadron, officials said.

The incident occurred at 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

“It is a serious matter any time Security Forces personnel discharge a weapon in the line of duty,” said Col. David Krumm, 49th Wing commander. “There is an ongoing investigation in order to ascertain the details of what led to this incident.”

Officials have not released the name of the airman, but said he was airlifted to a hospital in El Paso in critical condition.
