Police Identify Woman Killed In Early Morning I-10 Wreck

El Paso police identified the woman killed in an early morning wreck Sunday on Interstate 10 West near Hawkins Boulevard.

Police said 40-year-old Veronica Scobell was driving a Nissan Versa about 2:45 a.m. when she crashed into the back of a pickup.

Investigators said both vehicles moved into the right-hand emergency lane when Scobell put her car into reverse and backed into oncoming traffic.

Scobell’s car was hit by a Volkswagen Beetle that was then hit by a Mitsubishi Endeavor.

Police said Scobell was not wearing a seat belt and may have been drinking. She died at the scene.

The driver of the Beetle and two passengers were taken to a hospital and treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening, investigators said. No other injuries were reported.
