Saturday Night Rain Can’t Stop SNM Racing
Three nights of hard rain had left the infield floating in water as the Renegade Sprint Car Series worked on rolling in the racing surface. Joining the RSCS for the nights racing action included the MSD Ignition Limited X-Mods, Hornets, Rick’s Performance Center Street Stocks, and Sisbarro Super Trucks.
Into the heat races with Walton Kyle Jr. and Christy Geroges taking Super Truck wins. Tuni Molina and David Jay Jr. took the Hornet heats as Jeremy Navarro, Josh Gallardo, Kenny Medina, and Tom Connor took heat race wins in the X-Mods. Jarred Warhurst, Paul Telles Jr., and Jacob Rodriguez were winners in the Street Stocks as Curt Barnett, Cesar Fuentes, and Lorne Wofford ran away with the Sprint Car heats.
Trophy dash wins went to Nita Deetz in the Super Trucks and Mike Rosales in the Street Stocks.
Twenty laps on the scoreboard and the Sisbarro Super Trucks kicked off the night’s A-Mains with the 01 of Garrett Alberson taking a three wide battle to be in the top five to a four wide fight on the high line. Thrilling his way into second, the 01 wasted no time taking away the race lead before the caution waved with one lap completed after Sherman Barnett went airborne before coming to a stop on the top of the track.
To the restart, the fight for third would go three wide but would end in disaster as the 22 of Nita Deetz ended up on the hook. Completing only two laps in just over 10 minutes, the Super Trucks would lose five laps on their main event as the field lined up for the restart with thirteen laps to run. Side by side for the restart, the race resumed with the 01 of Alberson again running the high line to a good advantage as the battle for spots in the top five shaped up between the 3d of Brent Deetz, 6 of Walton Kyle Sr., and the 50 of Rick Jackson.
Holding third, Brent Deetz would work on running down the runner up spot held by Walton Kyle Jr. until contact with the front straight wall ended the night for the 21 just five laps shy of the checkered flag, moving the 3d up to second. Up top and flying, the 01 of Alberson would not let up as Garrett picked up the win. Brent Deetz, Kenny Alons, Walton Kyle Sr., and Rick Jackson rounded out the top five.
The Hornets would keep things rolling for fifteen laps with the 241 of David Jay Jr. getting the jump on the start; running from fourth to lead early on. Starting three wide a quarter lap back from the field, the 237 of Steven Arellano, 47 of Jeffery Maag, and 13x of Benny Pena quickly began their march through the field with the 237 leading the charge.
Into the top five, slower cars would become a factor as the 47 of Jeffery Maag jumped from fourth to second in a single shot; leaving the 237 to contend with the 28t of Rudy Tarin for third. Mired in slower traffic, the 241 of David Jay Jr. would still work to a straight-a-way advantage and eventually a half track advantage as the 241 ran away to victory. Jeffery Maag and Steven Arellano rounded out the podium.
To the MSD Ignition Limited X-Mods the battle for the lead was good from the start as the 4 of Dickie Gorham had his hands full with the M16 of Josh Gallardo. Working the high line, the 4 of Gorham would hold the lead as the 14x of Tom Conner ran third. Starting to move through the field, the 44 of Georges would be shadowed by the 5x of Patrick Carney as both drivers worked their way through the top ten before the caution waved for three cars that stopped on the track.
Back to green and Gorham would again have his hands full with fifteen laps to go as the M16 took over the top spot with the 5 of Kenny Medina taking third on the restart from Tom Conner. Making the move into second, the 5 of Medina would work on running down the M16 as Geroges and Carney moved into the top five. Into the runner up spot would fly Georges as the M16 worked into slower traffic before the caution waved for the 57jj of Jeremy Navarro.
On the restart with eight laps to go, the fight for the lead would go three wide with the high line open just enough for the 5x of Carney to steal the top spot where the El Paso racer was able to run away with the win. Christy Geroges, Rob Madrid, Dickie Gorham, and Dusty Riggs rounded out the top five.
The Rick’s Performance Center Street Stocks hit the track for twenty laps with the 10gt of Travis Harrison taking the early lead. Running the high line on the opening lap, the 10gt would get sideways into turns three and four; handing the top spot to the 3 of Patrick Beach. Working up the field, the 48t of Paul Telles Jr. would take over the fourth spot as the fight at the front started to take shape before the caution waved for the 13 of Aaron Harrison with seventeen laps to run.
Back to green, the 15x of Sean Bowman continued his assault on the 3 of Patrick Beach for the race lead as the battle on the track was for sixth with Rosales taking the spot and quickly picking off fifth from the 10gt. Trying to hold sixth Harrison would spin to a stop in turns three and four after contact from the 31jr of Jacob Rodriguez.
Fifteen laps to go the 10gt would get his spot back but would choose not to continue with mechanical problems becoming apparent as the green flag waved. Moving into forth, the 48 of Rosales would go after the 87jr of Justin Rodriguez for third as Paul Telles Jr.’s night went south when the left rear tire came of the 48t, sending Telles into the wall while the 00 of Stevie Ray Gutierrez climbed the lose tire; flattening the 00’s right rear tire and ending his night as smoke also began pouring out of the 00.
Back to green and Patrick Beach continued to lead as the fight shaped up for the runner up spot with Mike Rosales in pursuit of the 15x of Sean Bowman. Eight laps to go and the 15x was putting on a show; holding his line to perfection as things were about to get interesting. Coming to seven laps to go the 39 of Chance Thedford would spin in turn two.
As the caution was coming out for the 39, the 48 of Rosales would spin in turn three. After several minutes of deliberating, the call from official was that the caution was already called for the 39 meaning the 48 of Rosales had spun after the caution and thus putting the 48 back into third for the restart. Taking second on the restart, the 48 was in hot pursuit of Patrick Beach as both drivers began putting on a show. Working the high line, the 48 would build his momentum for the run on Beach as the 3 worked on making his car as wide as the track.
With just a few laps to go, the high line would become a challenge as the 81 of David Coy exploded a transmission; laying down oil and throwing up a huge cloud of smoke. Forcing the 48 off the top, it looked like the 3 of Beach would have it locked up but a slip of the bottom is all it took for Rosales to steal the win. Patrick Beach, Sean Bowman, Jack Skillin, and Joseph Granado rounded out the top five.
The Renegade Sprint Car Series hit the track for thirty lap of action with the 45x of Derek DeMartino taking the lead from the front row but on the inside line the 5 of Kyle McCutcheon was on the move; jumping from fifth to lead. As the 5 took the lead, the car on the high line was the 18 of Lorne Wofford. Building up momentum, the 18 would take second and wasted no time taking the fight to McCutcheon for the lead.
Side by side with twenty-seven laps to run, the 18 of Wofford would take the lead and simply begin to run away before the caution for the spun 27 of Cesar Fuentes put the field back side by side. On the restart, the fight was for third as the 9 of Robert Herrera took the spot from the 45x of Derek DeMartino. Ten in, twenty to go, and the rubber was starting to go down on the Speedway through turns three and four.
By a straight-a-way the 18 would work on slower traffic as the further back in the running order would see the 77 of Colt Treharn fighting for a spot in the top five. Fight with the 9k of Kyle Sager, the 77 would hold the fifth spot as back up front Wofford would just about see his night go south. Falling off the top of the back straight-a-way, the 18 would score a lucky break as no one was close enough to capitalize.
Bringing the car back on the track, Wofford would continue his run as McCutcheon held second; unable to fight his way through heavy slower traffic but the caution for the 99 of Chuck Jackson would clear the way as the field ran to eight laps to go. On the restart, the 5 of McCutcheon like a rocket off the bottom grove would go side by side with the 18 of Wofford but into turns three and four, the 18 would have rubber to his advantage as he was able to hold the lead.
Over and over, McCutcheon would get the run off of two, but could not get the same run in turns three and four. To the white flag and McCutcheon would give it one last shot but the 18 would not be denied as Lorne Wofford picked up the win. Kyle McCutcheon, Kyle Sager, Colt Treharn, and Robert Herrera rounded out the top five.
