Affidavit: Bar Shooting Began As Parking Lot Argument
ABC-7 has obtained more information in what led to the shooting of two men outside a bar in the Cincinnati Entertainment District last week.
Jose Merle, 33, and Jason Garced, 29, were both shot in the abdomen and taken to area hospitals after the incident, which happened around 1 a.m. Wednesday.
El Paso police arrested Charlie Wilson, 22, and charged him with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon earlier this week.
According to the complaint affidavit, Wilson began to interfere in an argument between one of his acquaintances and another man in the bar’s parking lot. At the same time, the affidavit states, Merle also began to interfere in the verbal fight. That is when Wilson pulled out a gun and fired one shot at Merle, hitting him in the abdomen, according to the affidavit. That bullet passed through Merle, hitting Garced, also in the abdomen.
Witnesses told both police officers at the scene and ABC-7 they saw the shooter run away. In the affidavit, police state witnesses described what the shooter was wearing, and the man involved in the argument with Wilson’s acquaintance identified Wilson as the shooter in a photo line-up.
Police found Wilson Saturday night hiding at an apartment in East El Paso. Police have also charged Amanda Hunter, 18, with hindering apprehension.
There is no new information on Merle and Garced’s medical condition, but emergency crews told ABC-7 at the time of the shooting both were expected to recover.
