Fort Bliss Officials ID Soldier Who Died During Incident On Post
Fort Bliss officials identified a soldier who died during an incident Sunday on post.
Spc.David L. Mertz, of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, died on Sunday on post
Officials said the cause of death is undetermined, and that there were no shots fired by law enforcement officials.
The incident is still under investigation.
A Fort Bliss spokesman said Mertz barricaded himself in a home Sunday on Fort Bliss. He apparently refused to come out of the home.
Fort Bliss officials said Mertz had no hostages. The Fort Bliss Special Response Team secured the military housing area off of Fred Wilson. Mertz did not fire any shots and was not threatening anyone.
