Police Identify 2 Women Killed In Fiery Crash
El Paso police now tell ABC-7 that it was two women who were killed in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning on Spur 601 near Loop 375.
Investigators said a silver 2005 Hyundai Accent was speeding east along the Spur around 3:45 a.m.
They said the driver, Maribel Alvarado, 26, lost control. The car went onto the median before crashing into a traffic light pole and catching fire, police said.
Investigators said the Alvarado and front passenger, a 28-year-old Vinnettza Gonzalez, died at the scene.
Another woman in the backseat, 27-year-old Priscilla Soto, was taken to Del Sol Medical Center for treatment of unknown injuries.
Police told ABC-7 they are waiting to notify family members before releasing the names of those involved.
These are the 62nd and 63rd traffic fatalities of the year as compared to 59 at this time last year, according to authorities.
