Anthony Man Accused Of Beating Wife

Investigators with the Doa Ana County Sheriff’s Department say they have obtained a warrant for the arrest of an Anthony man wanted for allegedly beating his ex-wife over the weekend.

In the early morning hours of Nov. 12, investigators say Victor Filerio, 21, waited until his ex-wife’s boyfriend left her home in the 800 block of 4th St. in Anthony. That’s when he allegedly broke into her home, beat her in the head with a rock, and attempted to strangle her.

The woman reportedly tried to call 911 when Filerio first gained entry to the home, but Filerio allegedly grabbed the phone from the victim, preventing her from completing the call.

Filerio is charged with aggravated battery on a household member, aggravated burglary with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, and interference with communication.

Investigators say they have reason to believe he may have fled to Mexico. Anyone who might have information on Filerio’s whereabouts is asked to call the Doa Ana County Sheriff’s Department at 575-525-8894. Anonymous tips can also be called in to Las Cruces CrimeStoppers at 800-222-8477.

Reporters seeking more information or interviews may call Doa Ana County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Communication Specialist Kelly Jameson at 575-386-4302.
