Police ID Man Who Died When SUV Flipped On Its Side

A man died when he was partially ejected from an SUV that flipped on its side about midnight Monday in East El Paso.

The single-vehicle crash occurred on the 2700 block of Yarbrough Drive. Investigators said the driver, 27-year old Jose Candelaria Jr., who lives on the 10200 block of Dunbarton Drive, was heading south in a 1999 Honda Passport when he approached an “S” curve and lost control of the SUV.

Investigators with the Special Traffic Investigations Unit said the SUV struck the right curb of the roadway and the man over corrected. The vehicle then turned 180 degrees and struck the left curb, causing the vehicle to flip on to its side. Candelaria was partially ejected and died at the scene. The roadway was wet and might have also contributed to the collision.

This is the 65th traffic death of 2011, compared with 58 during the same period last year.
