Mexican Police Stopped At El Paso Bridge

According to bridge officials, Saturday night several Mexican police officers were detained by Customs and Border Protection on the US side of the bridge.

Details are sketchy, but according to the CBP’s Roger Maier around 11 p.m. on Saturday customs officials saw two municipal Ciudad Juarez police units cross the border and stop on the U.S. side.

Mexican officers had been going after two people who also crossed the bridge. U.S. customs officials ended up detaining and processing those two people, plus three Mexican police officers.

The two people were cleared to enter the U.S., and the Mexican Police returned to Ciudad Juarez.

ABC7 is still waiting to hear back from officials as to why they were wanted by the Mexican Police or who they are, and whether shots were fired during this incident.

ABC7 received unconfirmed reports saying shots were fired at one point.

The CBP’s spokesman would only tell us no shots were fired on the U.S. side.
