Aggies Cruise to 92-65 Win

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Dec. 14)-The New Mexico State men’s basketball team opened a five-game home stand with a 92-65 win over Western New Mexico.

The Aggies (6-4) had four players in double figures. Senior guard Hernst Laroche and redshirt senior forward Wendell McKines paced NM State with 18 points each. Laroche not only had a season-high scoring performance but also a season-best five steals.

Senior center Hamidu Rahman recorded his first double-double of the year with 13 points and 13 rebounds, which were season-high marks. Sophomore center Tshilidzi Nephawe tied a season-best showing with 12 points.

The Aggies posted a 53-32 advantage at halftime. NM State shot 50 percent from the field (17-of-34) in the first half. McKines had a team-high 12 points, while Laroche contributed 10. The Aggies utilized the size advantage and both Rahman and Nephawe added eight points each.

NM State hosts Southern, Monday, Dec. 19 at 5 p.m. and it’s the first game of a double header. The Aggie women’s team then meets UC Santa Barbara at 7:30 p.m.
