Man Allegedly Robs Gas Station, Stabs Clerk When Confronted

The 63-year-old clerk of a West Side gas station was stabbed in the face, clavicle and hands when he yelled at a man who police said was taking items from the store.

Police said 44-year-old Miguel Saldana walked into the Valero gas station about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 6000 block of North Mesa Street and tried to take some items. When the clerk yelled at him to stop, police said Saldana jumped behind the counter with a knife in his hand and attacked the clerk before fleeing.

The clerk, who was not identified, was treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Saldana, of the 5500 block of Hunt Court, was spotted a short distance away and arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery. He was booked into the El Paso County jail with bond set at $128,500. Police said Saldana also had two outstanding warrants for assault/family violence and criminal mischief.
