EP Police release stats on Christmas Weekend DWI Incidents

The El Paso Police Department releases statistics from this weekend’s DWI incidents and compares them to last year’s Christmas weekend totals.

According to EPPD officials, officers investigated 38 alcohol-related traffic incidents that happened on city roads between December 23 through 1:00p.m. on Monday, December 26. Officials add that over the same time frame in 2010, there were a total of 34 alcohol-related traffic incidents.

Below is the incident breakdown:

2011 2010

DWI 1st offense: 21 26 DWI 2nd offense: 2 5 DWI 3rd or more: 3 1 DWI w/BAC less than 0.15: 9 n/a (not a law in 2010) DWI w/Child u/15yoa: 1 0 DWI w/Open Container: 2 0 Minor/Detectible: 0 2

Total: 38 34

EPPD officials went on to explain that the numbers indicate the total number of cases documented, not necessarily arrests made. The variation in the numbers was explained as due to pending lab tests and/or other issues that prevented drivers from being arrested at the time of the incident.
