Statewide Redistricting Conflict May Impact Citywide Recall Election

The state’s conflict over district lines and primary election dates may impact the city’s planned recall election.

A city of El Paso spokeswoman says the recall election to decide whether to remove the mayor and two city representatives is still set for April 14.

However, it is not yet clear whether the County Elections Department will be able to help the city save millions of dollars in staff and equipment by helping them run the election in April.

Recently rescheduled dates by federal courts for the Texas primaries because of conflicts over redistricting make it incredibly difficult for the County Elections Department to run the city’s recall election in April, according to department head Javier Chacon.
