UPDATE: Las Cruces Woman Killed In Motorcycle Crash

Police said a woman who was critically injured in a motorcycle crash earlier this month in Las Cruces has died.

The crash that involved two motorcycles on Saturday, Jan. 7, critically injured 35-year-old Bernadine “Nina” Aguilar. Officials released the news Tuesday that Aguilar had died at the University Medical Center of El Paso on Jan. 13. Aguilar had been at the hospital since Jan. 7.

LCPD officials said the crash occurred just before 9 p.m. on Valley Drive near Avenida Blanca in Las Cruces.

Investigators determined that 33-year-old Eliberto “Tito” Ruiz was driving a motorcycle with Aguilar as his passenger. Police said while changing lanes, Ruiz’ vehicle was clipped by another motorcycle, which was driven by 31-year-old Ricardo Madrid. Ruiz lost control and crashed the motorcycle, injuring Aguilar, according to police.

Police said Madrid’s passenger was also thrown from the bike, but was not seriously injured. Police said Madrid left the scene of the accident, but was later found by officers the same night.

Ruiz, Madrid and another motorcyclist, 32-year-old Adan Sanchez, were arrested on drunken driving charges, police said.

Officials said none of the motorcyclists were wearing helmets and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

Officials said additional charges are possible.
