Dona Ana Clerk’s Office Unveils Anti-Fraud Tool On Website
The Doa Ana County Clerk’s Office has installed FraudSleuth software on its website to help residents protect themselves against fraudulent liens placed against their properties.
“With the increase in fraud nationwide, I believe more and more counties will soon offer software of this nature,” County Clerk Lynn Ellins said in a news release. “We’re pleased to be the first among all western states to offer it to the residents of Doa Ana County.”
A mechanical lien, which can adversely affect the owner’s ability to refinance or sell the property until it is removed or resolved, can be placed on any property in the state of New Mexico without notifying the property owner, Ellins said.
The system will be enhanced later this year to allow property owners to register their email addresses with the county to receive immediate notification if any document is filed.
Ellins said he was able to procure the software at no cost, and has already implemented it on the Clerk’s website for use. A tutorial is available on the Doa Ana County Clerk’s Office web page at donaanacounty.org/clerk/docs/.
