2nd Police Officer Slain This Year In Juarez

XHIJ in Juarez and Chihuahua state police have identified a Juarez officer who was killed as 35-year-old Octavio Franco Hernndez.

A Juarez municipal police officer was shot and killed Thursday morning when he and his partner tried to assist a motorcyclist who had been struck by a hit-and-run driver. Investigators say gunmen in two separate vehicles drove up to the officers and began firing at them. One officer was killed the other is recovering at an area hospital.

The injured motorcyclist and two other civilians were also injured. No arrests had been made as of this morning.

A police commander was shot and killed last week bringing the death toll to two so far this year. Thirty-seven Municipal police officers were killed last year in Juarez.
