Police Make 2nd Arrest In Alleged Hate Crime

Police arrested a second man in an alleged robbery and beating in a Central El Paso alley that is being investigated as a possible hate crime.

Police said 26-year-old Fernando Pacheco Martinez and 24-year-old Arturo Contreras were yelling gay slurs as they repeatedly punched and kicked 23-year-old Emilio Moreno in an alley on the 3800 block of Fort Boulevard.

The incident occurred about 11:30 p.m. Jan. 8.

Moreno suffered a broken nose. He was treated at a local hospital.

Contreras, of the 2700 block of Porter Avenue was arrested on suspicion of robbery and booked into the El Paso County Jail on Jan. 14. His bond was set at $75,000.00.

On Jan. 12, Martinez, of the 4000 block Morehead Street was arrested on suspicion of robbery, police said. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail with bond set set at $75,000.

The investigation continues.
