Severe Storms Drench Dallas; At least 3 Tornadoes Hit Houston

HOUSTON (AP) – At least three tornadoes have touched down northwest of Houston, knocking down trees and destroying a tire shop as a massive line of storms batters the state.

National Weather Service meteorologist Gene Hafele says a tornado hit a tire shop in Somerville Wednesday about 90 miles northwest of Houston.

As the storms moved on, a tornado toppled trees and damaged cars in downtown Brenham, about 70 miles northwest of Houston. A third tornado was seen in Waller County, about 60 miles northwest of Houston.

The storms have dropped several inches of rain in North Texas, flooding roads and delaying flights in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Houston airport spokeswoman Darian Ward says several flights have also been delayed in Houston.

Still, meteorologists say this will not end the historic drought.
