Shootout In Juarez Kills 3 Near International Bridge
Juarez Municipal Police officers survived an early morning attack Monday near the Ysleta Port of Entry.
According to Mexican officials and KVIA’s media partners in Juarez, XHIJ Channel 44, the shootout occurred shortly before 8 a.m. in the Juarez suburb of Zaragoza, near the heavily-traveled Ysleta Port of Entry.
Investigators say a large group of armed men aboard at least six pickup trucks attacked the Benito Juarez Police Substation in Zaragoza while officers were preparing their vehicles for the day shift.
The officers were able to fight off the attack, killing three of the attackers while three Juarez police officers suffered what were described as “minor injuries.”
After the shootout was over, Juarez officers recovered several assault rifles and a couple of fragmentation grenades.
Eight police officers have been killed in Juarez just this month.
