Police Break Down 2,719 DWI Arrests Made In 2011
Some 2,719 people were arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated in 2011, according to numbers released by the El Paso Police Department.
The arrests were broken down into individual offenses, including driving while intoxicated; driving while intoxicated second offense, driving while intoxicated third offense; driving while intoxicated with a child younger than 15; driving while intoxicated with an open container; driving while intoxicated with open container second offense, driving while intoxicated with open container third offense; driving while intoxicated with a previous intoxication manslaughter conviction; and minor 21 and younger with alcohol detectable.
Police also included numbers for a new offense that took effect Sept. 1: 138 arrests for driving while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol content great than or equal to 0.15 percent.
Police also provided the relative frequency of the offense. The most frequent offense was driving while intoxicated (first offense), with an arrest every 5.2 hours. The least frequent offense, with two total all year, was driving while intoxicated with a previous intoxication manslaughter conviction. In all, police made a DWI arrest every 3.2 hours in 2011.
