Family Asks For Help After Losing Everything In Central El Paso House Fire
Angela Adauco stared out a broken window in her burned-down home Tuesday afternoon, hoping for a brighter future in dark times.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do,” said the 77-year-old in Spanish, tears streaming down her face.
Adauco is devastated after a fire tore through her home Sunday morning. She lived there with her daughter and two grandchildren. The house had been hers for 22 years.
“I feel so awful, I don’t know how I’m going to start over” said Adauco.
Adauco recalled the morning her house on the 3200 block of Louisville went up in flames. She said her 4-year-old grandson Jorge accidentally ignited the flames while playing with a lighter by setting fire to a mattress.
“Accidents happen,” said Gabriela Ontiveros, one of Adauco’s loved ones. “A lot of us take for granted the stuff we leave lying around in our homes. Most kids are firghtened and they’re mute, they can’t talk (after seeing flames), but he did. She made it out alive because (Jorge) spoke up.”
The family is staying with relatives right now, but hope to rebuild their home soon.
“She’s been here so long, she wanted this to be the home of her death. It’s very sad. People look for comfort in the way they’re going to die and people picture it, and all she anted to do was be taken from the Lord in her home,” said Ontiveros.
Ontiveros said they have been gathering clothing for the family, but what they really need is help rebuilding the home be it through monetary donations or services. If you’d like to help, email her at Ontiverosgabriela@yahoo.com.
