New Mexico State Police Starting Special Enforcement On Highway 70 After 2 Crashes
Due to several recent incidents involving major crashes on US Highway 70 east of the city of Las Cruces, the New Mexico State Police will be conducting special traffic enforcement patrols in order to deter hazardous and unsafe driving, according to police officials.
These will be “zero tolerance” patrols, intended to ensure the safety of the motoring public and to specifically enforce those violations that cause crashes or exacerbate injury: namely excessive speed, making unsafe lane changes, distracted driving, following too closely, and seatbelt violations.
The State Police will be working these operations in conjunction with our partner agencies, the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Department and the Las Cruces Police Department, in a collective effort to make our community roadways safe for every motorist.
Anyone who observes or witnesses an unsafe driver on any US Highway, Interstate, or State Road should immediately (and safely) call the New Mexico State Police District Headquarters at 575-524-6111 or via 911 in the event of an emergency.
Two people were killed in a head-on collision on Highway 70 on Thursday morning and there was a rollover accident a few miles down the road on Monday.
