NEW THIS MORNING: Juvenile Shot Overnight, Taken To UMC

A juvenile was shot near the U.S.-Mexico border late Thursday night, according to a Border Patrol spokesman.

At about 11:20 p.m. Thursday, Police dispatch transmissions indicated there was a shootout in Juarez right across the border from Ascarate Park. ABC-7 is working to confirm if the juvenile was shot in Juarez or on the American side of the Rio Grande.

An EMS dispatcher would only confirm an ambulance picked up the wounded teenager west of the Fonseca Exit along the Border Highway. The Border Patrol spokesman said the teenager underwent surgery at University Medical Center.
