Marvel Comics Creates Superhero For Child With Hearing Problems

Like a lot of young boys, 4-year-old Anthony Smith of New Hampshire is a fan of superheroes. His fascination led him to a big decision – to stop wearing his hearing aid.

Anthony told his mother that superheroes don’t wear hearing aids. That’s when his mother decided to email Marvel Comics looking for examples of superheroes who suffer from hearing loss.

Marvel responded by sending an image of Hawkeye, one of the recent featured heroes in The Avengers film. Hawkeye had lost 80 percent of his hearing and wore hearing aids before his hearing was restored.

Marvel didn’t stop there and later sent Anthony a drawing of a new superhero, “Blue Ear.” The character was named after what Anthony calls his hearing aid.
