Cause undetermined for east El Paso apartment fire

Fire officials looking into what sparked a blaze at an apartment in east El Paso, leaving four people are without a home.

The fire broke out around 10:15 Halloween night at the “La Estancia” apartments, at 7900 Viscount. Nearly 60 firefighters were called out to the apartment complex to put out the blaze.

Fire officials say the blaze started on the porch of an apartment unit on the first floor. Shortly after they arrived, officials say firefighters spotted large flames and smoke coming from the back of the first and second floor units. By the time firefighters got the blaze under control, it had spread inside the bottom floor unit and to the balcony of the second floor one.

There were seven people in both apartments at the time of the fire. All of them got out safely, but fire officials say the four residents in those two apartments will have to live somewhere else for awhile.

Fire officials tell ABC-7 the damage is estimated at $40,000 for both units. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
