Suspect Escapes From Police Following 5-Hour Swat Standoff

El Paso Police say a man wanted on felony charges is on the loose after a 5 hour SWAT situation in south-central El Paso.

It started just before 10 Tuesday night at the 100 block of Awbrey, just off of Alameda near Fox Plaza.

Police say the suspect drove away from police following a traffic stop earlier in the day.

Tuesday night, officers approached the man outside his home. He allegedly threatened them and went back into his home.

After nearly 5 hours, the SWAT team finally made entry into the home, only to find the suspect was gone.

Police say they found a loaded shotgun in the house and the suspect’s ill, elderly father unharmed.

A police spokesman says they know who the man is and will release his name and photo later today.
