New principals named at Bowie, Irvin, Telles, and Roberts schools in EPISD

The Board of Trustees made the following personnel appointments late Tuesday:

Jesus Teran, principal of Wiggs Middle School, was named principal of Bowie High School. Teran began his career with EPISD in 1998 as a teacher at Charles Middle School. He also served as a teacher at Bassett where he was a TAKS Teacher/Coordinator. In 2003, he was appointed assistant principal at Wiggs Middle School and became the principal there in March 2006. Teran has a Bachelor’s Degree in English and American Literature and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from UTEP.

Laron Sharp has been promoted from assistant principal of Irvin High to principal. Sharp began his career in EPISD in 2003 as a Campus Staff Development and Instructional Support Specialist at Coldwell and Houston elementary schools. He served as a special education instructional coach at Franklin High School until becoming an assistant principal at Irvin in 2010. Sharp also has taught in YISD. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Brigham Young University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from UTEP.

Christian P. James was promoted from assistant principal at Telles Academy to principal of Delta Academy. James, who has been with EPISD for 15 years, has served the district as special education teacher, at risk coordinator and assistant principal. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from UTEP. Prior to working in EPISD, he taught in Socorro ISD and was a graduate research assistant at UTEP. He also has been a detention officer with the El Paso Sheriff’s Officer and has served in the U.S. Coast Guard.

Rogelio Segovia, assistant principal at Garcia-Enriquez Middle School in San Elizario ISD, has been named principal of Roberts Elementary School. Prior to his employment with SEISD, Segovia taught in special education at Hillcrest Middle School in YISD and served as a Educational Computer Specialist with Clint ISD. He also taught English as a Second Language at El Paso Community College.

He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Psychology from Park University, a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Webster University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from NMSU.
