Ex-UTEP basketball player Chris Craig arrested Thursday in Utah

Chris Craig, the former UTEP basketball player who posted on the Internet about end of the world prophecies and allegedly called himself an “Islamic Jihadist,” was arrested by Price City, Utah police Thursday.

Price City police told ABC-7 he was arrested at his wife’s apartment for a misdemeanor drug possession warrant, and while being arrested, they found he had marijuana, drug paraphernalia and ammunition, which he faces charges on.

He is currently detained at the Carbon County Jail.

Craig was arrested in Thatcher, Ariz., on July 10 after he allegedly went into an Eastern Arizona College classroom and waived a Bible while asking the instructor if he was Mormon. Craig then left the classroom and went to another campus building where he continued to make derogatory statements about Mormons and Catholics before being arrested later at a Thatcher Walmart.

Craig was booked into the Graham County Jail in Arizona on charges including investigation of disorderly conduct, threatening and intimidating, and interruption of an educational facility. Craig was released on July 15 after the Graham County District Attorney declined to file charges, according to the Sun Advocate newspaper

Craig, 32, resigned from his head coaching job at Midland College in March after his end-of-the-world postings on his Twitter and personal blog came to light with college officials.

Omar Duran, a former teammate of Craig’s at UTEP 10 years ago, told ABC-7 Thursday that Craig stayed with him in El Paso for more than two months after he left Midland.

Duran said Craig just wanted to read his Bible all the time and lost interest in basketball.

Craig played at UTEP from 2002-’04.
